Every Bucarti piece is solid 925 sterling silver — the same metal all the way through, not a plating over something cheaper. That's the whole point: it's made to be worn. Every day, every occasion, a life actually lived. Silver is a living metal that reacts to the world around it, and understanding that is all the "care" it really needs.
Why silver changes colour (and why that's normal)
Pure silver is soft, so sterling silver is 92.5% silver mixed with a little copper for strength — that's what "925" means. Over time, the surface reacts with oxygen and, more than anything, with tiny amounts of sulfur in the air, water, cosmetics, and your own skin. That reaction forms a thin, darker layer called tarnish, or patina.
This is a natural chemical process, not damage and not a defect. How fast it happens depends on your skin chemistry, the climate you live in, and what the piece is exposed to — two people can wear the same piece and see completely different results. Because Bucarti is solid silver, the tarnish only ever sits on the surface: the metal underneath is identical silver, so a piece can be brought back to full brightness again and again, for a lifetime. It never "wears through," because there's nothing underneath to wear through to.
Wear it everywhere
You don't need to baby it. Wear it to work, to dinner, to the gym, in the rain. Solid silver is tougher than people think, and anything that dulls the shine is on the surface and reversible.
A few things simply speed up tarnish, so it's worth knowing them — not as rules, just so nothing surprises you: chlorinated pools and hot tubs, salt water, and direct contact with perfume, cologne, lotion, or household cleaners. If your piece meets any of those, a quick wipe with a soft cloth afterwards keeps it looking its brightest for longer. Sweat and everyday life? No problem at all.
Keeping it bright
- Give it a gentle wipe with a soft cloth after wear — this alone removes most of what causes tarnish.
- For a deeper clean, use warm water with a drop of mild soap, then dry it fully with a soft cloth.
- When you're not wearing it, store it dry in its pouch, away from humidity and away from other pieces that could scratch it.
- Tarnish that's built up? A silver polishing cloth or a quick silver dip bath brings it back in seconds. For heavy tarnish, we can professionally restore it — just ask.

Every Bucarti piece is covered by a lifetime guarantee against manufacturing defects — broken clasps, failed solder joints, or stones that come loose under normal wear. Email support@bucarti.com with a photo and your order number and we'll repair or replace it.
Not covered
Normal tarnish, scratches, bending, loss, or damage from misuse aren't defects — but they're almost always fixable. Ask us about restoration or repair; we'd rather bring a Bucarti piece back to life than see it retired.
